Last term, Agriculture and Countryside students from Cannington Campus benefited from bespoke training delivered by Clive Bethell, a professional Hedge-layer, Trainer and member of the Wrington and Burrington Hedge Laying Society and a Trustee of the National Hedge-laying Society.

Groups of students completed hedge-laying training days at Rodway Farm under Clive’s expert tuition and guidance using traditional billhooks, axes and slashers. The training was facilitated by the National Hedge-laying Society and the Prince’s Trust.

As part of their courses, students undertake practical work and learn new skills related to the countryside, farm and rural landscape.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of learning traditional hedge-laying techniques and making a positive contribution to the fabric of the farm and its long-term management.
