On February 1 Team BTC travelled to Truro for this mixed hockey fixture. From the whistle the pace was fast and possession turned over quickly.

Both teams had quick breaks in on goal – Sam Aldridge forcing the Truro keeper to save and at the other end it was Brad Palmer keeping the Truro attack at bay. End to end play saw Truro score first but Team BTC replied with a goal from Aldridge, who again had won a penalty corner and scored by rebounding the first shot. Truro’s hockey experience showed as they moved the ball and connected in the circle and scored two more goals before half time.

Truro continued to show their flair on the ball and forced several good saves from second half keeper Phebe Parsons. Bridgwater’s inexperience showed at times when players were left unmarked in the circle and this brought about another goal for Truro, quickly followed by their fifth from a penalty corner strike.

Not deterred Bridgwater fought for every ball and again made several quick breaks through Mollie Smith, Alex Puddy-Chambers and Aldridge. It was a break from Aldridge which resulted in Team BTC’s second and the game’s most impressive goal.

Aldridge had beaten a couple of players and from the right wing rifled a ball into the circle which was met and finished on the volley by Cherie Broadfield. This was a fitting reward for the effort and attitude shown by the Team BTC players.

In summary the game was played in the true spirit of sporting fixtures – competitive, passionate yet respectful.

Final score: Team BTC 2 – 5 Truro College
