Bridgwater & Taunton College’s (BTC) Horticulture adult learners had the privilege to visit Yeo Valley Organic Gardens at Blagdon recently, where they were able to see best practice in gardening in an organic and sustainable manner. They learnt about the development of the garden along with the areas that have incorporated elements from previous Chelsea Flower Show exhibits.

The autumnal colours of the dahlia borders in the garden were especially beautiful along with the swaying grasses in the autumn light. The group was suitably impressed by the composting systems and is looking forward to studying these techniques after Christmas.

In the afternoon, they visited Barley Wood Walled Garden, in Wrington. They saw best practices in organic edible growing, with a range of seasonal vegetables, some ready for harvesting, along with some old heritage varieties of apples that had come to fruition.
