Horticulture students visit Hestercombe
The weather held off for the level two horticulture students to visit Hestercombe Gardens, just outside Taunton. They were welcomed by the head Gardener, Claire Greenslade who gave them an interesting overview of the site history and her career journey to become a passionate horticulturalist with an incredibly varied job role.
Tutor Emma Butler said,
Claire’s clear passion for horticulture really inspired the students, allowing them to witness first-hand how careers can change and how job roles can be vast and varied within the wonderful world of horticulture.
The very dry summer caused the natural water courses that flow through the garden to stop and it has only just began flowing again after the very hot spell the UK experienced earlier in the year.
The seasonal scene within the garden is fantastic at this time of the year with the early onset of Autumnal changes in colours enhancing the landscape. The students were able to identify many plant types and how ascetically they can be used within the natural landscape as well as the more formal garden schemes found at Hestercombe.
