Leadership training for Equine students | Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management at Bridgwater College recently took part in a leadership morning at the College’s Cannington Activity Centre.

The morning was designed to prepare the students with the skills required to lead a team at the College’s Equestrian Centre. Second year students undertake supervisory duties as part of their course and the experience of managing their peers, along with daily activities on the yard, helps prepare them for the world of work, and looks great on their CV.

The students took part in a range of activities designed to test their strategic and co-ordinated approach to problem solving, before linking their approach, undertaking and outcome of each activity to management theories.

Student Dayna Walsh, who is currently in her second year of the Level 3 Horse Management course at the College said,

“At the start of the session nobody worked together and everyone talked over each other, but with help from our leader and understanding how to manage people and situations we began to listen to each other. It has definitely given me some ideas as to how I can become a better supervisor, and how I can get the best out of the groups I am working with to make jobs more efficient.”
