Local Year 11 footballer Megan Robinson has become one of many students to sign up to the new Elite Sport Performance Programme at Bridgwater & Taunton College.
Robinson, who this season has played for Yeovil Town Ladies FC U16s, is an attacking player who has also represented the South West of England and is on the England Talent Pathway. She has scored 44 goals this season alone and has been awarded the top goal scorer award for the past 3 years. She will join a host of other talented football players on the programme, some of whom already play to international standard, and the squad will play in the Category One Elite League – the highest division of college football in the country.
16 year old Robinson is currently in GCSE exam mode at secondary school, but from September 2017 she will be studying an Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science at the College, whilst also training for 13 hours per week. Her comprehensive training programme will include technical and tactical sessions, strength and conditioning, match analysis, psychology, plus more!
When asked why she decided to join the programme, Megan said,
“I have always wanted a career in sports and it has been my ambition to play football at a professional level. I believe that the partnership between the Team BTC Sport Performance Programme and Yeovil Town Ladies FC will help to fulfil my dream of playing for Yeovil in the WSL 1 Football League.”
Sam Reilly (pictured above, with Megan), Head of Sports, Outdoor Education and Public Services at Bridgwater & Taunton College, said,
“We are delighted that Megan has chosen to join us in September. Alongside her college course she will receive top-class coaching from a range of UEFA A and UEFA B licenced coaches, enabling her to continue to grow as a footballer. I would like to wish Megan, along with all the upcoming players at Yeovil Town Ladies, the best of luck in their GCSEs and look forward to seeing them in September.”
