Team BC Men’s Football Elite (South) Team featuring six, first year debutants, travelled to Saltash to play Plymouth College in their opening game of the season.

Team BC started the brightest and took the lead ten minutes into the game with some excellent attacking play. Will Moyse passed a great ball into the box resulting in an own goal from a Plymouth defender. The home side then began creating more opportunities of their own and gained dominance in the central areas. After 25 minutes, Plymouth’s pressure finally brought them an equaliser after a shot from the edge of the Team BC penalty area beating Goalkeeper Eric Evans.

Both teams continued to create chances, but again it was Plymouth who scored their second goal after 35 minutes. A similar goal to Plymouth’s first saw Evans beaten again with a well placed shot low to his left hand side, taking the score to 2-1 to Plymouth going into the break.

The second half began with Team BC strongly dominating play for the first time in the match, but an unfortunate own goal five minutes into the second half gave Plymouth a 3 – 1 lead. Team BC didn’t let this affect their game and continued to press on and after some tireless running from Josh Evans. The constant pressure brought its reward when a corner from Savvas Petrou went straight in to bring the game back to 3 – 2.

Team BC were now starting to believe they could get back in the game and were relentless in pressurising every Plymouth pass. With five minutes left on the clock Team BC looked to have secured a point as another great corner from Petrou was bundled into the Plymouth goal by Nash Eastwood.

The travelling Bridgwater side should then have regrouped and regained their composure, but two minutes later a mistake at the back led to a Plymouth player capitalising to take the ball past keeper Evans to win the game for Plymouth.

The game finished 4 – 3 to Plymouth, Andy Gill, Team BC Coach said,

“Overall I was really happy with the teams performance considering it was the first game against a good opponent. Ben Cherry and Danny Mahoney have the potential for a strong partnership in the centre of defence and once the team gels we will become a tough team to play against.”

Team BC Elite South squad face a home visit from Truro and Penwith College next on Wednesday 30 September.
