Team BC Elite Men Football squad, in the first game of the season, saw their outing end in a draw away at St Brendan’s. The away side dominated from start to finish, only for some heroic defending from the home team and poor finishing from Team BC, denying them the three points.

The game started at a great pace with Team BC taking the game to their opponents. The midfield comprising Harry Hamblin, Harry Horton and Alex Male had the game in complete control. Team BC didn’t take their chances in the first half and should have been two up at half-time, with keeper James Allison rarely troubled with debutants Reece Malcom and Jason Roots making a good partnership at the back.

The second half started very much like the first with Team BC pushing for the first goal of the game. Harry Fitchew missed a glorious opportunity to score from a rebound but managed to knock it over with a certain goal at his mercy.

The first goal of the game finally arrived in the 60th minute with a wonderful strike from Harry Horton. His shot from 25 yards clipped the top left of the post before hitting the net, a strike which left the St Brendan’s keeper no chance.

With the leaders now in complete control, in the 70th minute a mistake from Team BC goalkeeper James Allison got dispossessed on the edge of his box and the striker had the simple job of tapping into an empty net.

Team BC pushed for the winner and had the chance to win the game from the spot ten minutes from time. After a blistering run from Kofi Martin, managing to get the wrong side of his defender and was brought down in the box. Horton had the chance to double his goal tally and win the game for his side but his spot kick hit the wrong side of the post to go wide as Team BC were forced to share a point.

Head Coach Jamie Laird said,

“The lads are very disappointed with not coming away with the win, but there were lots of positives to take from today and we have some good partnerships developing. Our high pressing game was very pleasing and if we can add a bit more quality in front of goal we will do very well this year.”

Final Score: Team BC 1 – 1 St Brendan’s

Team BC’s next game will be against Weston College at home Wednesday 30 September.
