Bridgwater College’s Team BC’s mixed hockey team pulled off an impressive 3 – 2 victory over a Richard Huish of Taunton on a sunny March afternoon.

With the first half largely dominated by Team BC, it was an impressive performance from all members of the team and Richard Huish were indebted to their defence who kept them in the game.

Some good forward play saw Mel Storey score the first goal of the afternoon, with some good forward high pressing meaning that the Huish defence were forced in to a mistake and giving Team BC the lead. The lead could have been increased but a lack of clinical finishing and last ditch defending meant the score remained 1 – 0.

The second half saw Huish fight back and cause Team BC more problems than they did in the first half. Some good saves from Levi Hembrow and some impressive tackling at the back from the likes of Ella Beauchamp and James Kettlewell meant Team BC’s lead stayed intact.

The scores were equalled when Huish broke down the left hand side and a wonderful cross picked out the Huish forward who tucked the ball away.

Team BC had their lead restored with a wonderful break from Will Lawton who dribbled the length of the pitch before his shot deflected off a Huish defenders stick before being swept in on the back post by Connor Gillespie.

Again Huish fought back and the scores were equalled when a powerful strike found its way past Hembrow in goal. Team BC did not let their heads drop and with minutes left on the clock, a good penetrating run from Sean Hedaux meant he found himself at the top of the D before unleashing a well-directed reverse strike restoring the lead for Team BC and earning the side a well deserved win.

Team BC Coach Rob Morrish said,

“I was really impressed with how the side played today, as a team and individually. With some regulars missing, this was a good opportunity for other members of the squad to show what they have got and they really impressed me today.  Despite letting go of the lead twice, we looked the better side and I am really pleased that we managed to see this game out, score a few goals and to get a win against our local rivals is always good to boost morale.”
