National bronze award for Performing Arts star Harriet

BTC student Harriet Cameron has been awarded a Bronze Certificate in the Performing Arts Student of the Year category at the BTEC Awards 2019.

Harriet was nominated for her talent and outstanding commitment to her studies and was picked out from hundreds of other applicants from across the country to receive an award. Harriet, who previously attended Crispin Academy, joined the Level 3 Performing Arts programme at the College in 2017 and also studies A Level Drama and Theatre. She is a valued member of the College’s Drama Academy and has previously successfully auditioned for the Show Choir.

Harriet was nominated by Rachel Williams, Performing Arts Course Leader, who says,

“Harriet is so deserving of this award and we are immensely proud of her. She is an exemplary student in Performing Arts and the team will miss teaching her but we are so excited for her as she begins her studies at the Royal Academy of Music. We cannot wait to hear of her successes within the industry.”

Her nomination was approved by two rounds of judges and she is recognised for being proactive, a good role model to other learners, an independent thinker and a shining example of excellence in the Performing Arts.

Harriet says,

“Over the past two years I have experienced and learnt so much, college has been amazing and I’ve had so many great opportunities. I chose to study at BTC because when I visited on the Open Days the course really appealed to me; everyone seemed so passionate and committed to the performing arts training and that made me realise that this was the right place for me.”

Harriet will be going on to study at the world renowned Royal Academy of Music in September after successfully auditioning for their music programme, specialising in Classical Soprano Singing. This is an extraordinary achievement considering she had never had a formal singing lesson before starting her studies at the College.

Harriet is taking the lead role of Roxie Hart in BTC’s upcoming production of Chicago at the McMillan Theatre from the 12 – 14 June. Tickets are available from the Theatre website or Box Office on 01278 556677.
