As part of its portfolio of training and learning, the National College for Nuclear (NCfN) Southern Hub who partner with Bridgwater & Taunton College, delivers the Leadership & Management Practice Award and Certificate for the Construction and Built Environment sector.

The courses are usually delivered face-to-face over three or five days at NCfN Southern Hub in Cannington, Somerset, but due to Covid-19 restrictions and the closure of the college for safety, the Commercial team responded quickly to those employers who were still looking for the delivery of these courses, but through a different, distance learning delivery method.

A group of nine delegates from the same employer were enrolled for the first distance learning course and the NCfN Commercial team got to work using Microsoft Teams to enable the programme to go ahead as planned.

Microsoft Teams was used for the induction, introduction to the qualification and demonstration of OneFile, which is the software used within the course. Each induction session went well, with the tutors demonstrating OneFile and providing some taught learning on Nuclear specific questions, and the delegates able to set up their work distance learning portfolios.

Due to the College’s proximity to Hinkley Point C, many of the Leadership & Management course delegates are working at Hinkley Point C currently, but the courses are very relevant to all construction supervisors or those being promoted to supervisor level.
