On Wednesday 2nd November, Team BTC Netball played their second game of the season away to St Brendan’s Sixth Form. Team BTC went out strong in their first quarter, with numerous turnovers from Rheanne Lee (GD) and Emily Rossiter (GK) leading to conversions from our shooters. Team BTC took the first quarter with a healthy lead, 12 – 2.
The team continued to play against a struggling St Brendan’s team, and made it hard for them to get the ball out of their defensive half. Tiana Date-Jeremy (C) and Chloe Trout (WD) made countless turnovers in the centre third, meaning that Cerys Ethridge (WA) could play the ball quickly into shooters Tilly Milburn (GA) and Aerin Phillips (GS). Team BTC increased their lead at half time to 25 – 5.
It was important that Team BTC remained focused to maximise opportunities to turn over the ball. The team continued to pressure St Brendan’s which forced them to make many mistakes, many of which were converted by shooter Izzie Draper (GS). The team focused on the tactics and set plays they had worked on previously at training, and great execution of this saw them continue to extend their lead. Team BTC won the game 61 – 6.
Rheanne Lee, Captain and A Level student said:
“Yesterday was a strong and confident match against St Brendan's. With almost a complete squad for the first time this season, our team were able to focus on implementing tactics and set plays in a game situation, analysing what worked and how to improve. Although the score remained comfortable, the intensity grew, only conceding one goal in the last two quarters, but scoring 31, due to vital communication and constant pressure throughout the court. Versatility amongst many of our players allowed different combinations to thrive and begin working as a unit. An exceptional team effort, displaying the dedication towards our training from each player.”
