Second year Business students at Bridgwater College have recently benefitted from a programme of talks by guest speakers from a number of different areas within industry, starting with a visit from One Step Recruitment.

Chris Kimmins, Operations Manager at One Step Recruitment, and Gareth Reardon, Technical Consultant, spoke to the group about what it is like to work in recruitment. The students learnt about the skills and qualities needed to find employment and be successful in the industry. Skills such as confidence, the ability to build rapport, willingness to learn and entrepreneurial skills are vital to a successful career. They also told the students about what roles are available within recruitment from administrators to company directors.

Gareth Reardon, a former Business student at Bridgwater College, began his career working within a number of customer service positions before moving into the role of Trainee Consultant at One Step Recruitment. Gareth’s current role as Technical Consultant involves developing the company’s clients and generating new business by introducing his clients into work.

As Operations Manager, Chris Kimmins’ role is to steer the company. As well as many other responsibilities Chris is tasked with building new relationships and developing events such as career fayres, including The Somerset Careers Fayre, which Bridgwater College were a part of.

Abbie Brogden Work Placement Coordinator for Business, Travel and Computing at Bridgwater College said,

“The guest speakers are giving our students the opportunity to hear about different industries from successful men and women. As our students begin thinking about life after College it is extremely important that we give them every opportunity to understand and research roles in an array of industries. Gareth and Chris gave our students an excellent insight into recruitment as well as giving them key tips on how they can improve their employability and find roles in their chosen field.”
