Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Childcare Centre had an unexpected visitor in the last week before closing for the festive season, an OFSTED Inspector!

The Centre’s previous inspection was graded ‘good’ in 2014 and, since then, a number of changes and developments have taken place. The Inspector was so impressed with what she saw during her visit, that the Childcare Centre was graded ‘outstanding’ overall, and for each standard of the provision; Leadership and Management, Quality of Teaching, Personal Development and Outcomes for Children.

Mark Nettle, Director of Student Services at Bridgwater & Taunton College said,

“The College was delighted, but not surprised, to see Caren and the team gain recognition for the outstanding work they achieve in the Childcare Centre. There’s a genuine emphasis on the welfare, wellbeing and development of the children and we’re proud of what the team has achieved.”

Acting Manager of the Centre, Caren Egan added,

“We are thrilled to have been awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. The team have worked hard to ensure that we deliver the best care and education to our wonderful children and it is fantastic to see that their passion and enthusiasm has been recognised and rewarded in such a way. We continue to strive to be the best that we can be. Thank you to all our families for their continued support, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Gemma Williams and Demi Richardson, Early Years Practitioners at the Centre, explained,

“The management have been keen to get as much training for us as possible to help develop our skills as employees. This in turn has motivated the group and increased our understanding of the job. We work cohesively and communicate openly, which shows in our planning and interaction with the children. They are engaged and interested in the activities set, so it’s not unexpected that the Inspector noticed their excellent behaviour. Each area of the Centre are built so that age groups can combine meaning the children learn from each other which is a really important part of their development.”

The Childcare Centre will be offering the 30 hours extended free entitlement for three and four year olds from September 2017.
