Students studying Public Services at Bridgwater College were lucky enough to have a visit from Avon and Somerset Police and their police dogs.
The dog handlers, PC Steve Hopwood and Justin Andrews brought Riah and Monty to demonstrate their skills to the Public Services students.
Bethan Morrisey of Bridgwater and Jordan Tiley of Taunton, both students at the College, are shown in the photos being restrained by police dog Monty. Bethan said,
“I was terrified at the thought of the dog biting her but decided she was brave enough to have a go.”
Connor Connell, a former student of Shapwick School can also be seen in full police protection clothing which is worn by the dog handlers in times of serious threat or harm. Connor said,
“I couldn’t believe how heavy and hot the kit was.”
Ruth Burrow, Associate Lecturer for Public Services said,
“Our relationship with the team from the dog unit is going from strength to strength and we hope that we will be able to aid them in training situations in the future.”
