Students studying the BTEC Level 2 and 3 in Public and Emergency Services at Bridgwater College recently returned from a three day expedition across Exmoor.
The group put the skills they have learnt during their course into a real life situation. They were expected to operate and survive in the environment from setting up their own shelters to camp under, to navigating their teams over a 32km route. The trail included well known landmarks such as Webbers Post and Dunkery Beacon.
Student Charley Higdon, who studies Level 2 Public Services at the College said,
“The three day expedition was a really enjoyable experience that has put what we have learnt in the classroom into practice out in the field. I feel I have improved my skills during the expedition and as a result, become far more confident within this environment.”
Tyne Govier, Programme Manager for Level 2 Public and Emergency Services at Bridgwater College added,
“Expedition trips of this nature are an important part of the course. The activities were both fun and challenging, and taught the students valuable skills that will help with their employability in the future. It is vital that the students get to experience the learnt skills in a practical environment, they now have a much better understanding of how to navigate and survive in this terrain.”
