Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) is thrilled to celebrate incredible performances and record-breaking attendance for its latest student-led production, Cry-baby: The Musical.
Nothing other than a resounding success, the show captivated audiences with its rebellious teen comedy and electrifying rockabilly score, resulting in a packed theatre for all three of its performances.
Additionally, the College were honoured to present a special performance for local schools, welcoming Robert Blake School, Bridgwater College Academy and Stanchester Academy to the incredible McMillan Theatre.
The schools’ performance offered engaging careers talks that outlined the various job roles and responsibilities that go into creating such a spectacular production – both front and back of curtain. This highlighted the myriad of roles essential to bringing a musical to the stage, from dancers and directors to lighting technicians and stage designers.
It also offered an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production process, and the initiative aimed to inspire the next generation of theatre professionals by showcasing the diverse opportunities within the Performing Arts industry.
Audiences in both the public and schools’ performances were blown away by the high-energy performances, dazzling choreography, and infectious music performed by a professional band, each bringing the musical based on John Waters’ original film to life.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising the show’s humour, heart, and undeniable charm.
Jen Bowley, Deputy Head of Creative Arts, commented,
