BTC welcomed a record number of visitors to the Cannington Campus Open Event recently with guests keen to view the state-of-the-art facilities, meet staff and learn about the courses available at the campus that specialises in land-based and clean energy (nuclear).
The event was filled with opportunities for guests to hear talks, watch demonstrations and tour the various sites, including Rodway Farm, a 200-hectare mixed farm which is rated in the top 5% of farms within the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group, the Animal Management Centre, home to an extensive animal collection, Equestrian Centre and award-wining Walled Gardens.
Visitors interested in Clean Energy careers were able to see the multi-million pound National College for Nuclear (NCfN), including a virtual reality environment, reactor simulator, flow rig, labs and more. EDF joined the event by opening the doors of their Cannington Court Visitor Centre, enabling students to find out more about the exciting apprenticeships available.
A careers advisor and parent from a local school said,
I came to the Cannington Open Event on Saturday and it was fantastic. We toured the equine section and then moved to the main building for a presentation on accommodation and tour, it was all really good. The staff were really helpful and it felt like an extremely welcoming site.

It was brilliant to see so many people attend our Cannington Open Day and engage with our fantastic staff and facilities. Our sector leading reputation for land-based courses brought guests from across the southwest to see us. We continue to develop our curriculum to ensure our students, along with the valuable skills and attributes our BTC Advantage offers, are fully prepared to work and lead the land-based, green energy and sustainability sectors in the future. It has never been a more exciting time to be a student at BTC.
The next open event at BTC’s Cannington campus is on Saturday 28 January 2023.
