Royal Visit Celebrates Student Excellence and Innovative Nursing Training | Bridgwater & Taunton College

In a prestigious event, Bridgwater & Taunton College hosted a royal visit that highlighted both the exceptional achievements of young people across Somerset and the ground-breaking educational practices of the College’s nursing programmes.

The Princess Royal met with the Pride of Somerset Youth Award (POSYA) winners and student nurses studying at the College. The Pride of Somerset Youth Awards celebrate the remarkable achievements of young individuals from across the county.

During her visit, The Princess Royal talked to award winners, discussing their projects and the impacts of their work on the community. The winners showcased a variety of initiatives from environmental campaigns to community health projects, demonstrating the diverse ways in which young people are making a positive difference in Somerset.

Nigel Muers-Raby, CEO and Founder of Passion for Somerset CIC, the not-for-profit community Interest Company behind the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards, said,

We were incredibly honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness. The award winners were delighted to meet The Princess Royal and have their efforts recognised.

Her Royal Highness also spoke to student nurses from the College’s award-winning nursing provision, where The Princess Royal met student nurses and nurse educators who shared personal testimonials about the transformative effect their training has had on their lives, families, and future careers, highlighting the vital role the college is playing in delivering skills in Somerset to meet local needs.
