Students studying the Level 2 Diploma in Public Services at Bridgwater College have been taking part in a 6 week intensive course of self-defence with All or Nothing gym founder, Arthur Meek.

The sessions enabled the group to engage and develop a new range of skills that they previously haven’t had the opportunity to do. The experience also provided the group with the chance to work with other members of the group and learn a valuable lesson in self-awareness, with high class instruction from Arthur Meek who has 40 years’ experience in Karate and is a former European Champion in 1989.

As a result of these sessions, a number of the students are now looking to further skills by training more fields such as mixed martial arts (MMA), karate or other martial art specialisms.

Student Lukasz Lubowiecki said,

“I have been inspired to continue in this field, it was really enjoyable and great to try something different.”

Tyne Govier, Programme Manager for Public Services at Bridgwater College said,

“The project has given my students a number of outlets; it has provided a practical opportunity that is useful within day to day life and in their chosen career paths in the public services. It has also made them aware of different techniques and given them the confidence to deal with a conflict situation which they could control and defuse to keep themselves and others safe.”
