Over the October half term Team BTC held its first Football Development Day of the academic year. The Development day was open to all Year 10 and 11 students to come and experience sessions at Bridgwater and Taunton College. During the two days students all wore the College’s Playertek GPS vests. The Playertek equipment allowed coaches could to give feedback at the end of the day all of their physical data such as top speed, distance covered and sprint distance just to name a few.
BTC coaches delivered technical and tactical sessions on the state of the art 3G facility. An introduction to the ever growing game of Futsal in our Sports Hall. The players were also put through their paces in a Strength and Conditioning session with Ewan Greenhill who is Head of Performance at Yeovil Town Ladies in our Fitness suite.
Over the two days FA Tutor Chris Walley and Ex professional footballer and current Weston Super Mare Player and Assistant Manager Scott Laird delivered two masterclass sessions. Scott also delivered a Q&A session to all players about his professional career and how he got into coaching.
Jamie Laird (Team BTC Manager) said:
It was fantastic to have such a good turnout of both Year 10 and 11 players not only from around the County but also we had players travel up from Devon. It shows that what we are doing here at the College is now being recognised by students all over the South West. A huge thank you to Chris Whalley, Ewan Greenhill and Scott Laird for coming into pass on their expertise to these players along with our own coaching staff.
Scott Laird told us:
It was a pleasure to come in and work with the players and also have the opportunity to give some insight to the students on how I progressed into professional football and now management. I was really impressed with the standard of football I saw on the day. Thank you to Team BTC for inviting me down.
Feedback from one of the parents:
Olly was completely blown away with the college last week, hence his eager application, so we’re really looking forward to seeing him progress with this.
