Bridgwater and Taunton college welcomed staff from UK sports coaching and SASP to deliver some training for young students aspiring to become coaches or work in sport.
The Inclusive activity sports programme was delivered to students from Level 3 Sport and Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science. The aim of the programme was to encourage coaches to adapt sports sessions and ensure they meet the needs for all learner’s. This encompasses varied ages, abilities and disabilities to ensure our young leaders and coaches feel confident to work in the community and feel well equipped to design suitable sessions. Developing students to become fast thinking problems solvers to think on their feet and work within the community is valued by both the college and sports department.
Using the STEPS approach and methods such as open, modified and parallel activities the first and second year students are now more equipped with the skills and knowledge to coach at a variety of levels to schools in the local area.
