A group of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students and teachers attended an event at Taunton LRC today to mark World Book Day and talk about all things bookish!
They chose their favourite books from the library and chatted about the genres of books they like to read in English and in their native languages. Students also learnt about the history of World Book Day which was established by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 to promote a love for books and reading for leisure. The conversations also continued about the benefits of reading and the transformational impact they have on students’ learning and their personal development.
Many of our ESOL students also engage in the Reading Ahead initiative organised by our LRCs in collaboration with the Reading Agency. Students pick six books and record, rate and review them in a personal reading diary. At the end of the reading challenge, they receive a certificate of completion from the Reading Agency signed by several famous UK authors and senior leaders of the College.
As part of today’s celebrations, all our Further Education students had a chance to take part in a digital book quiz and enter into a prize draw to win national book vouchers or new books. The winners will be announced on Monday 18 March.
