Students Explore Careers Day 2024 | Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students who study Sport or Protective Services at Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) attended a dynamic careers day hosted at the Taunton Campus.

Throughout the day, the students were engaged in a series of practical workshops and presentations, carefully curated to inspire and equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for success in their chosen fields.

Facilitated by industry experts, these sessions encouraged students to reflect on the qualifications, skills, and qualities essential for thriving in the realms of Sports and Protective Services.

The event also aligned seamlessly with BTC’s personal development programme: the ‘My BTC Advantage’. The event focus on two core concepts; for students to have Higher Aspirations and improve their Knowledge and Skills.

Attendees had the privilege of hearing first-hand accounts from employers of esteemed organisations, who provided invaluable insights into the day-to-day realities of their respective industries. These included Inspired School, Premiere Coaching, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Avon and Somerset Police, and various Apprenticeships within the industry currently on offer.

Higher Education (HE) opportunities were also present within University Centre Somerset, where students can progress onto degree-level qualifications whilst staying local. They explored the Higher National Diploma in Sports Coaching & Science and the Foundation Degree in Public Services and Criminology.

Furthermore, students actively engaged in activities held in the new Sports Performance Lab and Fitness Gym, utilised by existing HE students.

Clare Cavill, Head of Sports, Protective Services and Hospitality, commented,

The Sport & UPS Careers Day was a resounding success, providing students with valuable insights into the numerous opportunities awaiting them in their professional journeys. It was particularly gratifying to welcome back former students who had previously studied with us at BTC and are now thriving in their respective industries. Their success demonstrates the exceptional quality of destinations our students are achieving following their time here at BTC.
