This week, two Bridgwater & Taunton College scholars, Bertam (Bertie) Kelly and Frankie King were entered in the table tennis regionals with prospects of qualifying for nationals. Both players were on unbeaten runs until they drew with each other in the semi-finals. Bertie just took the lead, to win the tournament, securing his place to compete at the nationals in Nottingham in April. Alongside this, Bertie was crowned Team BTC’s “athlete of the week.”

Jamie Laird, Team BTC Manager said

Bertie has qualified for the 2nd year running after helping the Southwest win the Nationals in April 2022, where he captained the team. He has yet to drop a single set which is some achievement. In any other year, BTC scholarship student Frankie King, would have qualified, however Bertie knocked Frankie out in the semi-final after both qualified from their groups! We look forward to watching all our students represent BTC, and the Southwest at the AOC Nationals Championships in Nottingham.

We wish Bertie the best of luck and look forward to cheering him on at nationals. Huge congratulations to Frankie for reaching the Southwest semi-finals and we wish them the best of luck for next year’s tournament.
