Team BTC’s Elite women’s football squad competed last week in the AoC Sports regional south west seven-a-side tournament, with the winner of the event representing the south west at this year’s Nationals being held in Nottingham.

After an early start for the squad, in order to make the journey down to Plymouth Marjon University, they kicked off the tournament with a 2 – 0 win against Exeter College. The team played with intent and worked hard both in and out of possession of the ball.

The second game was against the tournament favourites SGS College. At half time the score was 0 – 0 with both teams working hard to prevent goal scoring opportunities. Into the second half and with only two minutes remaining SGS took the lead from a corner. BTC pressed for an equaliser but time ran out and we lost the game 1 – 0.

Subsequently SGS went on to win their remaining two games and with an unbeaten run won the tournament. The Team BTC squad were disappointed to lose the game in the final few minutes but then set themselves a target to finish second in the tournament without conceding again.

The squad achieved this target in their remaining games, beating Petroc (6 – 0) and Richard Huish (4 – 0) and drawing against Truro (0 – 0). A disciplined display from Truro prevented BTC from scoring in the final game.

Overall the squad enjoyed the tournament are continuing to show improvements every week. Next week they continue their programme of fixtures with a Cat 1 league match.
