Men’s 1 Football
2nd place at South West AoC Regoinals
Team BTC Men’s 1st team entered the South West AoC regoinals tournament with sides competing from as far south as Truro and up to Swindon. With eleven teams’ entering the Men’s 1st came through their group to reach the semi-final against current national champions, Yeovil. It was a tight game but a 1-0 win secured the team their passage to the final.
Only conceding one goal prior to the final they led 1-0 but crucially the opposition got a goal just before half time. It was a tight encounter with some superb opportunities well managed by both teams. Our opposition however sneaked a vital goal 2 minutes before the end. All in all, a superb day’s competition with the Team BTC players exceptionally close to reaching the Nationals.
Men’s 3 Football
Team BTC 1 – 1 Weymouth
In the 67th minute a Weymouth forward pounced on an original shot that was parried by the keeper, to break the deadlock. 1-0 to Weymouth. In the 80th minute, ball crossed in by the Team BTC winger which forced a Weymouth defender to commit a foul in the penalty area, the referee, with hesitation, pointed to the spot. This resulted in a second yellow for the Weymouth defender who was sent to the side line. The frustration got to Weymouth players and another sent off for dissent. After sometime the referee finally allowed the penalty to be taken. The penalty is forced home by Jake Leavy, after a long wait. 1-1. For the remainder of the game, Weymouth were forced to play with nine men. Team BTC couldn’t manage to capitalise on Weymouth’s downfall and the game ended 1-1.
Women’s Football
Team BTC 4 – 0 SGS 1s
The first half produced little chances for both teams and the first half ended 0-0. 50 minutes in a shot by a Team BTC forward is parried by the keeper almost into her own net but was cleared off the line brilliantly by the SGS defender. 63 minutes in a ball played into the middle by Fiona Barry deflected off of a defender and looped over the keeper and went into the back of the net. 1-0 to Bridgwater. 67 minutes a ball through to Faith, who has a cross-shot that goes over the keeper’s reach and into the net for Team BTC’s second goal. 78 minutes in, Fiona received and took on three defenders and superbly slotted the ball home with her left foot, past the keeper to make it 3-0. 83 minutes in Halle Arnold won the ball back in midfield, the ball fell to Katie Garrett who struck a 35 yard shot, and nestled it into the bottom corner to make it 4-0 at the whistle.
Men’s Rugby
Backwell 12 – Team BTC 36
Team BTC Rugby took the short trip up the motorway to Backwell School. Despite awful conditions the game was played at an excellent intensity with both teams showing the intent to move the ball and play with tempo. The first half was a real battle, with Team BTC playing against the wind and up the slope, and Backwell bringing a real physicality to the contact area and when ball carrying. The teams turned around equal at half time, but Team BTC were able to utilise the conditions better second half and ran out with a 36 – 12 victory. Team BTC tries were scored by Flynn Needham, Jacob Parker, Aiden Cable, Fin Sperring, Jono Hayes and Ethan Parfitt, with 3 successful conversions from Alfie Hodge. Special mention must go to Rowan Traynor who was outstanding on the day.
Netball 1
Team BTC 24 – 39 Richard Huish
Team BTC Netball faced Richard Huish. A close first quarter, going goal for goal resulted in an 8-9 score to Huish. Huish managed to pull away in quarter 3 and 4. The team worked well together with moments of great space and movement down the court. Going into the final quarter the team had determination and drive to pull the score back. Although winning the final quarter 9-5, Team BTC lost 39-24. A great performance by the whole team, who worked together and played calmly.
Basketball
Richard Huish 52 – 36 Team BTC
Despite 18 points from Theo Depoumps, Team BTC came up short in their first fixture of the season against a more experienced Richard Huish. RHC led from the start and managed to stretch their lead up to 11 points at half time (26-15). A strong effort from BTC in the 3rd quarter meant that RHC’s lead was reduced to 7 points (47-40). Unfortunately, RHC found another gear to push on and win the game by 16 points (52-36). There were plenty of positives despite the defeat including great defensive efforts from Luke Hyde and McGrace Joseph. The team have their 1st home fixture next week against Truro & Penwith College in the Cup and will be looking to get the 1st win under their belt.
Cross Country
Two students qualify for Nationals
The AOC held their regional cross-country competition at Strode College where BTC had three entrants taking part in the race. The course was spread over 5km. In extremely tough conditions, the strong winds were always going to make it hard for anyone to achieve a personal best. A Level student, Oscar Margetts, completed his run in under 21 mins shortly followed by Level 3 Agriculture students, Tobias Price and Aidan Grandfield. Tobias and Oscar have now qualified for the AOC National Championships which are to be held at Nottingham University where they will be representing the South West.
