Team BTC started the brighter of the two sides but the opposition were very compact in their defending and difficult to break down. After some clever build-up play on the edge of the opposition penalty area, BTC earned a free kick which Cottrill curled onto the cross bar. Reed, who had been a real nuisance to the opposition, reacted quickest to nod home past the keeper and put BTC into a deserved lead.

With continued pressure, BTC pressed for a second and it was less than ten minutes before they scored. Reed again playing a big part in the goal with a beautiful flick around the corner to Durrant who showed some great footwork and change of pace, followed by a fizzed pass into the danger area which was then turned into the net for an own goal.

There were plenty of chances to put the game to bed for BTC, but a lack of composure in front of goal meant the game was still in the balance after Scott, Reed and Byrne all came close.

The BTC defence of Mason, Sandford and Purser along with Kruszynski were comfortably controlling the few chances the home side. It was clear it would take slice of luck for BCS to get back in the game. That slice of luck came when Mason was controversially adjudged to have handled the ball in the box despite the linesman having already flagged for offside. A penalty was given, much to the bemusement of the BTC players. The penalty was dispatched well to make the score 2-1.

BTC again controlled the game in the second half with Cottrill, Byrne and Ham marshalling the centre of the pitch well. Chivers and Plant were introduced to the flanks to inject some pace and purpose going forward. Chivers also showing some brilliant defensive work keeping opposition wingers at bay. As the game drew on, BTC were the only side who looked like scoring and came close via a couple of Byrne-free kicks that were well saved by the keeper. Purser also earned a penalty in the dying moments of the game after some quick footwork in the area, however the keeper made an excellent double save to prevent BTC adding a third.

All in all, a comfortable win, despite the score line. However, a game of missed chances resulted in three points.

Team BTC travel to Salisbury next Saturday looking to book their place in the semi-final of The Gary Else Cup.
