Bridgwater College will be holding its inaugural Film and Music Festival on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 April 2016 at The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater.

The aim of the festival is to promote and celebrate the work of young people locally and nationally that can be shared and enjoyed by their peers and the local community. Bridgwater College’s Film and Music Festival will give artists and audiences the chance to enjoy output from fresh creative voices keen to become involved in the creative industries.

The Festival is also inviting short film submissions from young people attending local schools and colleges and from aspiring filmmakers in the community. Chosen entries will have their films screened and nominated for an award at the ceremony and wrap party, to be held on the evening of Friday 22 April. Deadline for submissions is Monday 11 April, more information can be found on The McMillan Theatre’s website.

The festival is a two-day event that will include screenings, talks, panels and debates, involving filmmakers – those working at the height of their professions, as well as those just embarking on their careers – with a view to engaging audiences in cultural interaction. The schedule also includes exciting and stimulating DJ and band performances combining the world of film and music.

Confirmed events include industry talks by Harriet Hoare, a film producer, about surviving in a freelance world, and a screening of her new film, Balls, Barriers and Bulldozers, a documentary about women’s football in Palestine. Alex Richardson, a local film producer, will be discussing planning and producing films, and The National Schools Partnership will hold a panel discussion on the film, He Named me Malala. A photography exhibition, Pink Floyd The Wall Retrospective by David Appleby, will also be held in the Theatre.

Bridgwater College’s Film and Music Festival is committed to inspiring the film and music makers of tomorrow and celebrating the creative work of young people in Bridgwater and the surrounding communities. We hope that this will be the first of many and look forward to seeing you there.
