The Construction Skills & Innovation Centre (CSIC) in Cannington, Somerset, is excited to be hosting its second Construction Live event from 20 March for three weeks!

Over 100 undergraduates from the University of Brighton, Loughborough University and University West of England, alongside five other influential universities, Tier 1 and local contractors will be in attendance to see this unique construction experience in operation.

Construction Live will see delegates having to complete a single story structure, with fresh and waste water, an access road (tackling the badger run), parking spaces and street lighting – not an easy task in just three weeks! Getting to grips with project planning, site management, hand tools, industry-standard plant, machinery and equipment, whilst performing to exacting construction site behaviours and standards, this will be a challenging, memorable and fun task.

Construction Live is a unique experiential programme offering delegates the opportunity to experience what it is like to work on a construction site. Now recognised as a vital work experience component to those on Degree and apprenticeship Programmes, providing the practical wisdom that only such an experiential event can.

The Construction Skills and Innovation Centre, located in Cannington, Somerset (close to Hinkley Point C), was built in partnership between Bridgwater College (now Bridgwater & Taunton College) and EDF Energy and features the Construction Arena, a nine acre purpose-built realistic working environment, consisting of a sloping site, and is surrounded by landscaped banks with a series of platforms and a central access track.

The facility replicates a real-life construction site, with industry-standard plant, machinery and equipment, and enables construction site behaviours and standards to be taught alongside specific technical knowledge and skills.

In addition to Construction Live, CSIC offers many different programmes of learning from Steel Fixing, Water Utilities and ConOps Apprentices.
