On Monday 10 February, University Centre Somerset hosted the BTC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science students, who successfully completed their laboratory-based fitness testing. The students, as part of their Laboratory and Field-based Fitness Testing unit, utilised our state-of-the-art Sport Performance Lab to conduct a series of laboratory-based fitness assessments.
Our Sport Performance Lab is equipped with cutting-edge equipment, including:
- Two Wattbikes
- A hypoxicator
- Three Monark bikes
- A Cosmed treadmill
- VO2max testing facilities
- OBLA testing equipment.
These resources provided these FE students a great opportunity for our students to gain practical experience and deepen their understanding of fitness testing, usually only available at university level.
In addition to the fitness testing, the students were treated to an insightful tour and talk by Nath Thomas, Sport Course Leader, who discussed the fantastic Higher Education options available at UCS. Nath has been instrumental in the development of our Sport and Exercise Science programme, ensuring that our students receive an excellent experience. For example, he has been integral in arranging a work experience opportunity for our sport students in St Lucia, which will take place in April later this year.
