We are delighted to share that University Centre Somerset student Jonathan Bryer has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Farmers Club Pinnacle Awards 2020.

The Pinnacle Awards are an opportunity for outstanding students from top university courses to demonstrate excellence in farm management. Jonathan is one of just eight finalists from across the country to be invited to the Awards dinner at the Farmers Club in Whitehall, London later in the year, where he will hope to scoop a Gold, Silver or Bronze prize.

20-year-old Jonathan, from Walton near Street, has, as part of his degree course at University Centre Somerset, researched and developed plans to construct a new robotic dairy enterprise. This project incorporates all aspects of farm management, focusing on elements such as animal welfare and environmental issues, whilst striving for and maintaining profitability. This has proven an excellent opportunity to combine Jonathan’s outstanding academic ability with the practical knowledge he’s developed on-farm whilst working at Barrington Organic Partnership.

Jonathan said,

I am honoured to have been selected as a finalist for the Pinnacle Awards. It certainly makes the hard work and effort put into my degree course and assignments worth it! I am very thankful to all of my lecturers over the past three years, especially Dan Rood and Richard West for their wisdom and guidance in developing my knowledge and preparing me for my future after university.

Dan Rood, Agriculture Course Leader at UCS, added,

Jonathan is following in the path of many UCS students who have achieved success in previous Pinnacle Awards. My colleague, Richard West, has done a sterling job of helping all of these students with his tireless support and expertise. We wish Jonathan all the best in this year’s finals.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Awards dinner, which was due to take place this month, will be rescheduled for later in the year.
