Welding Bootcamp links with industry on factory visit | Bridgwater & Taunton College

Welding Bootcamp candidates at BTC have made links with industry on a factory tour at Matravers Engineering Ltd in Fivehead.

Nigel Ball, Managing Director at Matravers, and Mark Gillingham, Apprentice Training Co-ordinator, gave an introduction to the business, explaining how it started, who their clients are and the type of work that they do. The tour gave the candidates a good insight into the day-to-day running of a welding and fabrication business.

The candidates also had a talk with Peter, who was part of the very first Welding Bootcamp cohort at BTC and who, on successfully completing the course, has secured employment with Matravers.

Our 12-week training bootcamps are part of the Government’s National Retraining Scheme, created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, to provide people who may have recently been made unemployed or who are under employed with the opportunity to retrain in the welding sector.

Studying in the brand new, state-of-the-art Welding Centre of Excellence (WCoE) at the College’s Bridgwater campus, candidates develop the relevant skills, behaviours, knowledge and health and safety awareness required to prepare for working in the welding sector.

The next Welding Bootcamp begins in January 2022, find out more and apply: https://www.btc.ac.uk/courses/adult-learning/engineering/skills-bootcamp-in-welding/
