The Coastguard Agency, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, South West Ambulance Service Trust, Avon and Somerset Police, and Bridgwater & Taunton College have partnered to offer students enrolled at the College an enrichment learning programme which incorporates learning elements from each emergency service.
To provide knowledge and skills for individuals by raising aspirations and promoting a positive image by using the following core values:
Participants will develop skills and confidence that will be beneficial to both communities and employers. They will also take part in numerous community engagement programmes throughout.
The 999 Academy offers many different experiences revolving around public service institutions, including talks, visits and practical exercises.
Recently, a session with Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue took place, focusing on organisation, roles and responsibilities, history, engagement with other services, and a practical element. We have also had sessions from Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, who work with volunteer paramedics from the South West Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST). In this session, students looked at CPR, defib and paramedic CPR First Aid.
