We are committed to investing in our staff as we recognise this benefits the individual, colleagues, the College, our local community and our students. As such, we are continuously developing our rich Staff Development programme.
We are committed to training and development which enables people to achieve career goals and prepares them for new responsibilities. We currently spend more than £250,000 a year on an extensive staff development programme, including external and internal courses, workshops and conferences. All our staff are eligible and encouraged to participate in the programme, which may include workplace seminars run by experienced and knowledgeable specialist staff and facilitated workshops.
Staff development starts on day one at Bridgwater & Taunton College. New staff are invited to a New Staff Welcome Event, where they are introduced to the College, staff benefits and the principal, Andy Berry.
Through our online portal, all college staff have access to a variety of ‘learning events’ and training sessions. Topics include mentoring, leadership & management and computing. Further, all staff have yearly appraisals and a personal development plan (PDP) and can attend subject specific conferences and training.
We encourage employees to participate in scholarly activity and action research that can be presented at our annual University Centre Somerset Research Symposium. All staff are also eligible to take part in the Erasmus programme.
